Each event is themed e.g. ‘Extreme Shorts’ or ‘Visions of Horror’, film makers submit there films for inclusion in the programmed part of the event. The second part of the night is the now infamous ‘Open Deck’ session where film makers bring their film on the day of the event. This part of the event is judged by an industry panel. Past panellists include; Dawn Sharpless (Dazzle short Film Label, Marc Boothe - b3 Media, Stephanie Turnball - East. The winning Open Deck entry is awarded with a prize. Past prizes include; East End Film Festival Passes, Film Courses, Post Production vouchers and development to the value £600.
Cutting East is produced by Tractor Films in partnership with The East End Film Festival, funded by The Tower Hamlets Films Office.
Open Deck Rules are as follows:
- You must submit your film by 4.45pm on the night
- You must be prepared to introduce your film
- Your film must be on DVD, VHS, Mini DV, DVCam or Beta SP
- Your film must be less than 10 mins in length
- Your film MUST BE CUED UP OR WE WON’T SCREEN IT!
These films are judged by the Panel including b3, Dazzle, Films Office, Tractor - they will select the best films from the “Open Deck Section” Prizes to be announced after the final programmed section.
